Abstract:For decades, student persistence in college has been an issue of interest to academicians, students, parents, and college administrators. Persistence until degree completion is important because, on average, employment and earnings prospects are better for individuals having finished college. Persistence is important financially for higher education institutions due to tuition revenues, and keeping customers etc. This study uses logit analysis and national-level data. It is found among others that some of the factors influencing persistence do so in different ways for men and women. For some variables, the impact on the persistance of men and women is similar.
