Abstract:The aim of this paper is to develop and estimate an empirical bioeconomic life history model of fishery to avoid biological management failures. The authors used the Gulf of Mexico gag fishery as a case example in the development process and they embedded the estimation routine in the dynamic bioeconomic model. The new model introduces a solution to the bioeconomic calibration problems. The results indicate that failure to account for fishing behavior may affect fishery management failures.
