Abstract: | The American military operation in Iraq, 'Operation Iraqi Freedom', has had wide broadcast media coverage from its very beginning in 2003. Many questions have been raised about the ethics concerning the broadcasts. This article studies the gender and industry experience of professionals in cable news network and the relation of ethical codes and decision making. The decisions whether to air or not to air material from the 'Operation Iraqi Freedom' were examined, using Patrick Primeaux's 'mind-heart-soul' -framework. The findings indicate no difference in decisions made by male and female professionals. Industry experience, however, was found to affect decision making, increasing decisions made by 'mind'. |
