| Abstract: | The market for video cassette recorders /VCRs/ in GB is analyzed, sub-divided by features included on the machine, such as hi-fi stereo sound or two-speed recording. Key trends are that unit sales reached 2.3 million units in 1989 but market value fell as a result of price cutting, and the trade deficit was reduced to 4 million GBP in 1989. The VCR market 1985-1989 is overviewed by volume and price. European comparison of six countries for 1989 is presented. Production of TVs and video equipment 1984-1988, and trade in VCRs 1985-1989 is shown. VCR market breakdown by main features, and owners of VCRs in 1989; market shares by manufacturers 1989, and advertising expenditures are tabulated. |
