Abstract:Using the Internet as a research platform, this paper presents the first field experiment dealing with discrimination against homosexuals (hereafter as: h-sexual/s) on the rental housing market of Sweden. Two fictitious couples, one heterosexual and one male h-sexual, apply for vacant rental apartments advertised by landlords on the internet. It is shown that h-sexual males are discriminated against, since the h-sexual couple gets far fewer call-backs and fewer invitations to contacting and to apartment showings than the heterosexual couple.
