Abstract:The costs of alcohol abuse in the UK are high. Because it is assumed that advertising increases the consumption of alcohol, alcohol advertising has been criticised and regarded negative. This article examines the reasons for alcohol consumption in the UK. Examination is two-part. In the fist part is examined the hypotheses that advertising multiplies market size and alcohol drives overall consumption. In the second part is identified and quantified the key correlates of alcohol consumption in the UK.
