Abstract:This article discusses the role of the financial sector and institutional investors in corporate governance. The authors compare current corporate governance practises in the UK, the US, and “continental Europe”. They suggest that capital markets must be efficient and competitive and auditing must be reliable in order for corporate governance to be effective.
