Abstract:The management of Cypress Semiconductor Corp., San Jose, California, let executives monitor performance, anticipate problems, and intervene selectively, without layers of bureaucracy. Information is collected in such detail and shared so widely that the company is virtually transparent. Management's task is to hire high-quality people they need. Managers must set goals then measure and meet them. Individual monthly goal reports are explained. Managers should allocate resources for maximum productivity. The methods of tracking performance by management are shown. The raising of Cypress awards is presented. The problems of handling valued employees who want to quit are discussed.
