Abstract:Researchers find it important to understand how goals influence task performance. Three models relating assigned and personal goals, self- efficacy expectations, performance valence, and performance have been tested. Results show that assigned goals influence both self-efficacy and personal goals and that they in turn, have direct effects on performance. The aim of this article however, is not to represent these models as competitors, but to address the unique aspects of each model.
