Abstract:A conceptual analysis is developed to assess the probability of a multinational corporation's selection of a subsidiary's control system under various host country environmental conditions. The host country factors are operationalized and synthesized into a 3-dimensional matrix that prescribes appropriate control systems. In the prescriptive framework, input control emerges as the primary control system preference as multinationals increasingly compete in nations with unstable financial policies, significant government restrictions and high cultural distance.
