Abstract:The emergence of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) has prompted a reassessment of social responsibility (here as: s-r.) theories. This paper starts with a brief discussion on the progress of s-r. concept in academic discussion and the history of DuPont corporation in the United States. Then author considers DuPont corporation's actions in Brazil and the debate on GMOs within the Brazilian context taking into account participation of various interest groups. The need for open collaborative efforts in evaluating new technologies is expressed.
