Abstract: | In industrial ecology, closing of material loops is a critical challenge. This study designs advanced loop-closing (here as: lp-clg.) systems for the recycling of end-of-life (as: e-of-l.) vehicles and electric household appliances n "Hyogo Eco-town". In addition, a methodology for evaluating the eco-efficiency (here as: e/e) is developed. Finally, the e/e of the designed advanced lp-clg. strategies for the two products is evaluated, based on the results of materials flow analysis and life-cycle assessment. It is shown among others that, compared with conventional recycling systems, when an industrial complex and an advanced lp-clg. system for e-of-l. vehicles are established, the total economic value increases by 114 percent and the e/e as to the amount of direct material input is improved by 57 precent etc. |
