Abstract: | There are concerns created among consumers and other stakeholders due to the application of nanotechnology (hereafter as: n-tngy.) in the agrifood (here as: a-f.) system and the rising amount of nanofood products on the market. Among other barriers, these concerns of the commercialization of a-f. n-tngy. products may limit the ability to making use of the full potential. This study aimed to use systems mapping to explore and to analyze critical links btw. consumer acceptance of a-f. n-tngy. and factors, e.g. knowledge,..., trust and human environmental health risks. Using a meta-analysis of the risk perception literature and appealing for opinions of experts, the systems map is developed. It was found that factors affecting consumer acceptance of a-f. n-tngy. are complex, dynamic, interactive, and interdependent. Consumer decisions to accept a-f. n-tngy. were found as results of complex feedback structure. There are suggested several consumer policy and programmatic levels in the system toward enhancing consumer acceptance of a-f. n-tngy. products. |
