Abstract:Few companies today view managers as people who receive problems, make decisions and pass down solutions to the workforce. Quite simply, the computer revolution has meant that companies must make more decisions about more things more quickly - so non-management people must be more involved. However, old attitudes die hard. Many firms still give employees the least amount of additional information and authority the company can get away with while continuing to cope. Such firms have failed to recognize that knowledge - rather than capital or labour - is now the crucial business resource.
