Abstract: | What is holding up the next wave of Internet business. Back in 1995 Millipore's internal planning documents called for rapid implementation of full commerce on the Web, with order status, pricing and availability and online ordering, but later the company backed off. They are still refiguring out the next step, anyway the primary agenda is how to make money using the Web. Technological glitches account for some of the delay because integrating Web-based commerce with the companys database applications was harder than it seemed. Also when using a two-price system (for home and outside markets), putting pricing information onto the Wed threatens that differential pricing system. If international customers are going to give up their relationships with local distributors, they're bound to demand lower prices. |
