| Abstract: | This article provides a perspective for the role of non-executive directors (hereafter as NEDs) and their importance to the governance of companies. Contrary to what previous researchers have argued, the authors find evidence about NEDs' significant value thorough the analysis of 75 in-depth case studies of NEDs performance. Eight of these cases are presented in this article. |
