| Abstract: | This paper aims at exploring whether there is strong evidence to support the notion that variations across firms in observed (here as: obsd.) ownership structures (hereafter as: o-s-str/s.) result in systematic variations in obsd. firm performance. Using data for 175 Greek listed firms, this hypothesis is tested by assessing the impact of the o-s-str/s. on corporate performance as measured by profitability. The o-s-str/s. is modelled. Based on empirical findings, it is suggested that a more concentrated o-s-str/s. positively relates to higher firm profitability. In addition, higher firm profitability is found to require a less diffused ownership. |
