Abstract:A career plateau is defined as that point in a person's career which represents a cessation fo both lateral and upward movement between jobs. A fuller understanding of individual reactions to the career plateau can be achieved by considering supervisory behaviors and job characteristics as variables transmitting the influence of career plateauing to behavioral and attitudinal reaction measures. A study of the relative performances and degrees of job satisfaction of plateaued and non-plateaued employees shows that plateaued ones enjoy less job satisfaction.
