Abstract: | The Italian economy has benefited from the fall of the dollar and the dramatic drop of the oil prices. As a consequence the banking sector is buoyant. But the fat, inefficient public sector demands huge loans, crowding out more efficient private enterprises and raising the interest rate. Similarly to the general position of the Italian economy in Europe the banking system is also behind the rivals: borrowing and lending is still form the bulk of bankers' work. The quality of service, the competitiveness etc. all require rationalization. |
