Abstract: | After a general discussion of the theoretical foundations of consumer allocation systems, the criteria for choice of a particular functional form and the evaluation of its empirical performance, the paper turns to a class of four differential demand systems which are in a sense similar and easily comparable. The attention is concentrated on their relative empirical performance as a basis of choice. The author argues that rather than limiting oneself to a single system one can consider a linear combination of these systems as an alternative which can do more justice to the data than any of the elementary systems. |
