Abstract:Since the reform and opening up, the proportion of household savings to GNP rose from 5.87 per cent in 1978 to 56.82 per cent in 1996, while the average annual increase of the total volume of retail sales of social consumption goods within the same period was less than 20 per cent. As can be seen, the current buyer's market is one caused by depression of demands. The angel coefficiency has been rather high over a long period of time. This indicates the low level of residents' consumption in China and the low level of buyer's market. At present, the structural unbalance, instability and low level of the buyer's market indicate that we haven't parted from the era of shortage.
