Abstract:In this paper the author estimates restricted and unrestricted complete commodity demand and labour supply systems for males and females in West Germany using a representative cross section. He is especially concerned with the test for separability of consumer demands from male and female labour supply. The results differ very much for both groups, male household heads and married women. The author focuses on the implications of his results for an optimal commodity tax structure under allocative and distributive aspects.
