Abstract:This paper advances the hypothesis that corporate boards control top management behavior by making compensation decision not only related to a firm's financial performance and size, as shown in other studies, but also on organizational effectiveness and social performance. Public data for the year 1986 supported the hypothesis for all the variables except for social performance. Author stresses that hypotheses state that the level of executive compensation is a positive function of organizational effectiveness, social performance, size of the firm, and level of profit in a particular year.
