Abstract:Research on script theory suggests that much organizational behavior is performed automatically or mindlessly. Scripts conserve cognitive capacity, provide a basis for organizing and evaluating behavior, legitimate organizational activities, moderate role conflict, and facilitate sense making, prediction and control. On the darker side , they may lead to a lack of vigilance and authenticity in operating routines and superstitious learning in decision making.
