| Abstract: | Based on patent citation data this paper analyzes flows of knowledge across time and across institutions in the energy research field. Prior research by Popp implicates that besides the energy prices, the quality of the accumulated knowledge available to inventors affects the level of energy-saving research, and in this article pattern of citations is further studied. The findings support the existence of diminishing returns to research inputs across time and within given year. In addition, the government patents are found to be more likely cited than other patents. |
