| Abstract: | The purpose of this article is to provide a systematic assessment of the private economic value of patents. Based on a comprehensive data set of an extensive European survey, the paper suggests that the estimated mean of European patent value distribution is approximately 3 million euros and the median about 30 000 euros. The findings of the study are consistent with previous research, which also suggest that the distribution of patent value is skewed. Unlike existing research, this study also introduces monetary estimates of the moments of distribution. |
