Abstract:After 1998 inequality of hourly wage has increased very rapidly in Poland. This paper analyzes data from Polish Labour Force Survey to gain a better understanding of the reasons behind this sharp increase. Differences in wage-setting patterns between the public and private sector is one factor that is associated with the increase. Numerous privatizations have emphasized the wage differentials because private sector tends to pay more unequally than the state sector. Demand for educated labour and wage differentials within both upper and lower income groups are the other interpretative factors identified in this study.
