Abstract:Expert systems can be developed using approaches much like those used in other kinds of systems development. However, there are different kinds of applications, different development tools and different management approaches. The key to success is an understanding these differences and correctly matching the tools and management approach to the problem to be solved. The Mutual Group has been involved with expert systems since 1985. The company's strategy was based on the observation that three are three types of expert systems application: the classic stand-alone system that displaces human experts; the embedded system personal assistance; and the expert assistance system that lets the human expert control the action.
