Abstract:Network computing, combining an apparent return to the centralized days of the corporate mainframe with modern easy-to-use software has been increasingly promoted as the basis for a new retail computing paradigm. The computer industry tends to see the "NC vs PC" battle as a corporate power struggle between Microsoft and its major competitors. For retailers looking at the long-term development of their own information technology needs, then the various network computing options now available certainly cannot be ignored.
