Abstract:This paper compares the differences of training at work in France and Britain. In France the ongoing training has not provided greater access for women than the laissez-faire system in Britain. A case study of the insurance industry provides detailed evidence of the issues underlying the fact that a cross-national comparison must be combined with analysis of gender. The situation of women depend on a cluster of multiple variables, some of which are similar, such as working of patriarchy, and some of which are different, such as state configurations of childcare infrastructure.
