Abstract: | There are three attempts to solve the problem of complexity in formulating decision models for practical use: a formal-theoretical one, a market-oriented one and a heuristic approach. It is shown that this problem can neither be solved by optimizing complexity within a formal meta-model nor is it possible to separate or ignore facts of the relevant problem by theorems of general validity. The only way to create useful decision models is comparing alternative models in a heuristic manner. The construction of simple and practical decision models, which is less operational and only by help of creative thinking to be solved, can only succeed in a heuristic manner in spite of the fact that it may seem at present less satisfactory. |
