Abstract:The present corporate information system network manager has a difficult task to control various network elements. A new generation of systems and software is beginning to deliver much-needed control to IS managers overwhelmed by isolated network components. However, none of the new products can meet all integration needs yet, since as fast as vendors can add features, users are adding complexity to their systems. Some network control software products are evaluated: IBM's NetView, Concom's Net/Master, A T and T's UNMA, DEC's Enterprise Management Architecture. Of these, NetView and UNMA are the most popular network management and control tools. Some case stories are described.
