Abstract:An artificial intelligence approach is proposed to solve the large-scale network design problems. The various topological aspects of the design problem, especially in the case of large computer networks, are summarized and popular conventional methods are briefly discussed. The combinatorial nature of this problem suggests the use of heuristics to attempt to reduce the search space of candidate topologies. The proposed approach is essentially a general framework for integrating conventional approximate methods and knowledge-based systems frameworks. The inference engine works in forward chaining mode extending the realm of local transformation used in conventional heuristics.
