Abstract:"The geographical limits of my language constitute the frontiers of my world" - this reflection of the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein immediately highlights one of the fundamental questions of modern information technology: the terminology problem. Some technical terms of English origin may create special problems for people whose native language is German. Three dimensions of this type of difficulties are identified. A lot of problems in connection with international computer networks, international data bases, translation of texts are described. The application of special terminology data banks, word-indexes, Information Retrieval Systems and similar support systems are suggested to overcome the terminology problems.
