Abstract: | Access to voice, data and various computers requires multiple channels of training and IS support at the University of California, San Diego /UCSD/. UCSD currently employs a 125-mile broadband Ethernet network to provide for voice and data interchange over a 12-mile expanse. The backbone of the network serves as a window to resources including a 1000 node LAN, multiple IBM and VAX minicomputers and mainframes, and a Cray supercomputer. UCSD campus network is presented in detail. UCSD uses several methods to meet its support challenges: product selection, systems administrator telecommunications, external and user group support. Finally, training troubles are outlined. |
