Abstract:Sola Barnes-Hind was having problems at its manufacturing facility. Inventory was not being effectively managed. Overhead costs were disproportionately variable. Accountability for the product was lost. Management responded by creating manufacturing modules. Modular production allowed to improve company performance through improved teamwork, better communications, more pertinent feedback and clear accountabilities. The five major subprojects included: a revised paperwork/feedback system; materials flow; physical layout/setup; manpower and human resources systems; a return on the company's investment. Employee involvement was the key to success.
