| Abstract: | The watch market has moved from the substantial use of mechanical movements to the predominance of battery-powered quartz crystal watches, which now accounts for over 90% of sales volume and 75% of value. Almost all UK demand is met by imports. The ownership of more than one watch continues to be an important trend. Retail sales of watches are forecast to grow to 18.3 mn units worth £645 mn by 2002. |
