| Abstract: | This article examines why the gendered division of domestic labour has not changed even though women are now participating in working life. Data from the 1994 International Social Survey Programme encompassing 22 countries is analysed, and a game theory is used to model the circumstances under which the division is expected to alter through changing marital status. The results show that the division can be changed in the circumstances where there are more autonomous women and more men willing to co-operate rather than facing a divorce. |
