Abstract:This paper studies home-ownership in the US among opposite-sex and same-sex couples. The study was based on several variables, such as couple type, marital status, household income, whether the couple lives in a city or outside a city, and presence of children. However, and important question is the possible discrimination based on sexual orientation or marital status. This paper demonstrates that same-sex couples are more likely to own rather than rent than unmarried opposite-sex couple, but less likely to do so than married couples. Moreover, same-sex couples are not more likely to own homes in center city areas than elsewhere. Married couples however are less likely to own homes in the city.
