Abstract: | It is a hotly discussed issue whether or not the trade union movement, through coordinated strategy and/or the growth oriented activities of individual unions can increase the proportion of workers in union, regardless of external conditions Using a unique body of British data, it is shown that an individual union that has been the single, largest user of conciliation facilities for bringing recognition claims, has enjoyed an above average level of success (relative to other unions) in such claims. |
