Abstract:In the normative foundation of a market system within the neoclassical paradigm an adequate basis to guarantee a socially and ecologically accountable regulation of the economic system? The article argues that the neoclassical approach - when it is referring to the classic liberal Adam Smith and the German ordoliberals - does not take into account the substantial historical change of the market framework and sociopolitical conditions. Influential concepts of economic systems prevail although their sociopolitical foundation has altered.
