Abstract:The purpose of the research paper is to contribute to a better understanding of the origins of public relations (here as: p.r.) in Spain from the end of nineteenth century to the early twentieth century. The results show that although the term 'p.r.' wasn't brought to Europe until the end of the second world war, it's philosophy had been used in Spain before that under different names. Although, these other names seemed to be ignored when the practitioners heard about the American term p.r. and replaced by the new term. The article presents a literature review of the first Spanish communication journals, interviews with pioneers of the field and documentary research of unpublished professional archive of the first Spanish agency.
