Abstract:Investor relations (IR) is too pivotal to a company's future and its public persona to be left solely to financial specialists. In recent years, IR specialists have, unfortunately, created a mystique about their profession. While temporarily giving IR "status", they have inadvertently, walled this function off from the basic mainstream of the company. There are, however, persuasive arguments to fold the IR function into the centrally directed strategic program of the company. It must be an integral part of short-term tactical and long-term strategic planning. And, as such, IR should be orchestrated by professionals - corporate or counsel - whose communications visions are broader than those of the specialists.
