Abstract:"What's Happening" is a tailor-made new system of interpersonal communication at R-2, the largest plant in Polaroid's Integral Film Assembly division. The system's development was begun in 1985 in order to set aside some communication biases (due to information filtering, information shortage and at the same time information overload, grapevine etc.). The story of the development process is reviewed. In describing the pitfall the system's designers and contributors have encountered, the difficulties of achieving good organizational communication are shown. Simultaneously, effective strategies and practical steps for overcoming those problems are suggested. Training, two-way communication, participation are at the heart of the new system.
