Abstract: | Social issues of business activities have become more complex and controversial. Who can forget the Arab oil embargo, Bhopal, the Tylenol poisonings, or the Alaskan oil spill? Corporate social performance has become a critical strategic issue motivated by a myriad of factors ranging from profit to legal mandate to human survival. Some examples of social issue planning are mentioned. It is shown that the concept of corporate social performance (CSP) has emerged as the central academic paradigm. An operational model of CSP is proposed which will provide structure for more effective coordination of social concepts, processes and policies. Three social programs in a construction firm are used to illustrate and test the model. |
