Abstract:In the early nineteenth-century it was forbidden to product or distribute ready-to-wear cloths in Sweden. This article examines the positions taken by different actors (e.g. tailors, mills and government) on the local arena and on the state level. The Swedish textile industry played the most important role in ready-made cloth dispute. This conflict developed into a discussion of the entire basis of Swedish society’s economic structure.
