Abstract:Milton Friedman's immensely influential (and equally controversial) essay on "The Methodology of Positive Economics" was first published in 1953, but some of the ideas found earlier expression in his 1946 American Economic Review article discussing the methodology of Oscar Lange. E.B.Wilson was a scientific generalist of a type that has always been uncommon, and is becoming unknown. In 1929 he served as President of the American Statistical Association.
