| Abstract: | This paper discusses how general equilibrium models of monopolistic competition can be applied to explain complementarities and cumulative phenomena and their implications in the context of macroeconomics, international and regional economics as well as growth and development. The main goal is to point out the commonality of ideas across a wide range of fields, using the notion of complementarity as an organizing principle. |
