Abstract:Much of the economics literature on the political economy may seem simplistic to political scientists or historians. Now economists are, however, doing their political-economy analysis explicitly, rather than implicitly as used to be the case. Most of the economists have now come to the realization that good economic advice requires an understanding of the political economy of the situation. As a result, there has been a remarkable degree of cooperation btw. political scientists and economists. As the study attests, there is by now a lot of case-study material on the experiences with policy reform. The next step should be to integrate evidence from the case studies more systematically into the analytical work, and in turn to use the analytical models as a basis for more rigorous case studies.
