| Abstract: | Although research on the turnover of business units has a long tradition, primary data on the full populations of business units (firms, establishments) present in nation's markets were inaccessible until recently. Only in the past decade have economists picked the locks of the doors of numerous national census bureaus and organised the primary records so that the births, deaths, and life trajectories of individual business units can be tracted. |
